As much as I love it, I’m a firm believer that the peppermint stays put until AFTER Thanksgiving.  Until then, as basic as it may be, it’s pumpkin spice all the way!  I love the pumpkin spice syrups, but they’re super sugary, and I find that that sweetness often masks the actual ‘spicy-ness’ of the pumpkin spice, which – to me – is the best part.  Instead of relying on store bought ‘pumpkin pie spice,’ which – like the syrup – can be a little bland for my liking, I made my own, and I’m pretty happy with how it came out!  Use it in whatever you like – pie, coffee, oatmeal – and customize to your own taste {hint…I love a little extra cloves and allspice!}.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll thank the stars for this delish – and easy – pumpkin spice recipe. After all, it’ll score full marks in the flavour department and will put that extra spark to all your fall gatherings! Personally, our bunch loves to huddle around a warm fire, crack out the old family stories, and share laughs over steaming cups of cocoa and all the pumpkin spice treats that you could possibly think of.

So, without further ado, here’s my recipe for a tablespoon of autumn gold!

One Tablespoon Homemade Pumpkin Spice {GUIDE…adjust (and multiply!) to your liking!!} :

  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice

Grab a break-proof bowl from your cupboard, get a grinder, and set to work combining all of the above-mentioned spices. Alternatively, you can also go down the more modern route and use an electrical grinder to make your life a little easier – spend the saved time crunching through autumn leaves and hearing the birds chirp!

Of course, this flavoursome homemade pumpkin spice isn’t for your cupboard, but for all your fall makes and bakes! With so much to choose from, it’s easy to get stuck in a pickle about what the best recipe for your pumpkin spice is.
